Nominations for Marymount University Commencement Speakers and Honorary Degree Recipients

View Prior Honorees:

Undergraduate and graduate students, Trustees, staff, faculty, alumni and community members are invited to submit names of potential commencement speakers/honorary degree recipients to the Chair of Marymount University’s Board of Trustees and the University President.

Commencement is an important part of university life, a time when we celebrate the culmination of much hard work and achievement. As part of the ceremony, we invite distinguished guests to address the graduates and the academic community. Nominees should be individuals whose work and achievements reflect Marymount’s values of intellectual curiosity, service to others, and global perspective, and whose message is one that will serve as a capstone to our graduates’ educational experience. Resubmission of names of candidates who were nominated, but not selected in past years, are welcome.

Nominations are accepted year-round on a rolling basis, but only those received by midnight on Sunday, July 16, 2023, will be assured full consideration for the May 2024 Commencement ceremonies. The Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees and the University President will review the nominations and present their recommended nominees to the members of the full Board of Trustees, who will vote to approve the speakers and the awarding of their honorary degrees. The selection of the 2024 Commencement speakers will be announced to the campus community and the public in spring of the 2023-2024 academic year.

Members of the Class of 2024 are particularly encouraged to nominate, but the nomination process is open to all members of the Marymount campus community and extended community (trustees, parents, alumni, friends, community members). Multiple nominations are accepted.
