Student Art Exhibition Opens at Marymount University

Marymount University invites the public to a free opening reception for its annual Senior Art Exhibit from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11 at the Barry Gallery. Six senior art majors will display work that focuses on either a social or personal dilemma. It includes drawings, mixed media, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and painting with collage.

“The subjects include racial discrimination, depression and dependence on social media and technologies,” said Judy Bass, a professor of fine arts and director of the gallery. “The work is really strong and I’m excited about the range of materials they’ve used. This annual exhibit is a wonderful tradition here at Marymount and we’re so proud to show off the work of our seniors.”

Maggie Brewer, Briana Clorey, Elizabeth Gwin, Demetrius Jordan, Maura McCandlish and Kiki Neibuhr will present art they’ve worked on all semester as part of their senior projects. The exhibition will run through Dec. 17.

The Barry Gallery, located in the Reinsch Library at Marymount, 2807 North Glebe Road, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.
