Marymount And Local Church Team Up For Nov. 2 Health Fair

Marymount University’s Malek School of Health Professions and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will host a free community health fair from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the church’s Benedict Hall, 3304 Washington Boulevard.

Free blood pressure, blood glucose and breast cancer screenings will be offered, along with free flu shots. Information on lifestyle modifications, such as changes in diet, smoking cessation and the importance of exercise will be presented.

Marymount nursing students will also discuss dental care, benefits of sleep and rest, nutrition, hypertension and asthma. Representatives will be on hand from Marymount’s Physical Therapy Department, Walgreens, Capital Caring, and HOPE, which offers pregnancy assistance and counseling.

“It’s really a wonderful event and a way for us to reach out to the community, especially the often underserved Hispanic community,” said Cindy Osnos, an adjunct professor of nursing at Marymount.

She noted that each booth at the health fair will have Spanish interpreters.
