Let our Admissions team help you transfer from NOVA to MU

Attention NOVA students!

Are you looking to transfer from Northern Virginia Community College to Marymount University to complete your bachelor’s degree? If so, we understand that you may have many questions about the application process when it comes to transferring colleges. Our aim is to make your transition to Marymount as seamless as possible. We can help you maximize your course selections and academic experience at NOVA (and other Virginia community colleges) in preparation for transfer to Marymount.

NOVA Guaranteed Admissions Agreement requirements

Here at Marymount, we have an agreement in place with NOVA known as the Guaranteed Admissions Agreement (GAA). It applies to NOVA students who meet the following requirements:

  • Complete an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from NOVA, or an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Interior Design or Health Information Management from NOVA
  • Earn their most recent 30 academic credits from NOVA
  • Have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Complete other requirements outlined in the Guaranteed Admissions Agreement

Students who are unable to meet these requirements are still eligible for admission to Marymount. However, acceptance is not guaranteed.

NOVA to Marymount transfer plans: two and four-year transfer pathways

If you plan to attend NOVA and already know that you want to transfer to Marymount at a certain point, we have both two-year and four-year transfer pathway guidelines for the Marymount-bound student. The only difference between the two transfer pathways is that the four-year track shows students what courses they will be expected to take at Marymount in addition to what they can take at NOVA. In either case, both resources are designed for students starting their journey at NOVA.

In addition to the Marymount transfer admissions process, GAA students should also recognize the policies that relate to transfer credits and class standing upon transfer. NOVA courses are designated 100-299 with grades A, B or C that are considered for transfer credit. Marymount awards a maximum of 75 credit hours from a two-year institution (including NOVA) towards graduation. If the prospective student also has coursework from a four-year institution, then a limit of 84 credit hours will be accepted at Marymount.
