Marymount President Dr. Irma Becerra took home the coveted mirror ball trophy as the winner of the 2018 DC’s Dancing Stars Gala. Becerra danced the cha-cha all the way to first place against other local celebrities.
Becerra was dancing for her charity of choice, the newly created Sister Majella Berg Internship Fund. The fund is designed to provide a stipend for Marymount students who take on unpaid internships.
“Being that service is one of the pillars of a Marymount education, together with intellectual curiosity and global awareness, many students want to take on an internship that is based on service,” Becerra said to the Fairfax Times. “Most of the service internships are unpaid, so we wanted to provide some financial support for students that want to take on a service internship.”
Becerra raised over $50,000 for the internship fund, and took home $10,000 more as the winner.
