DPT Program Hosting 5K Race on April 16

Marymount University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is hosting its second annual 5K race at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 on the school’s main campus, 2807 North Glebe Road. Cost is $35 ($10 for MU students) and runners receive a T-shirt, a pint glass and can enjoy a family-friendly post-race party. The race is being held in conjunction with MedStar NRH Rehabilitation Network.

“We had an an enthusiastic crowd last year and are expecting nothing less than a good time this year,” said Skye Donovan, an associate professor and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. “The course is walker-friendly, and we encourage everyone to come out.”

Last year’s race drew 500 runners and raised more than $17,000. Donovan noted that the event brought together neighborhood residents, students and Marymount faculty and staff.

“People stayed for several hours and enjoyed themselves,” she added.

This year’s post-race party on campus will include food, craft beer from BadWolf Brewing Company, a full coffee bar, bagels, fruit, family-friendly games and local vendors.

Race proceeds will help defray the cost of purchasing and shipping medical equipment and supplies for the DPT Program’s annual service learning trip to Costa Rica, where students provide rehabilitative services to orphanages and other institutions serving the underprivileged. Funds will also support nonprofit research and student travel to conferences.

Free parking will be available on campus for the event. For more information or to register, go to marymount.edu/5k. Donations are also being accepted. Contact MU5K by email with questions.
