Bersoff Elected Chair of Marymount Board of Trustees

Dr. Edward H. Bersoff was elected unanimously as chair of the board of trustees of Marymount University at its May 24 meeting.

“Dr. Bersoff is an outstanding selection to lead us as chair,” said Marymount President Matthew D. Shank. “He understands and is passionate about our mission and has the perfect blend of academic and business experience. The entire Marymount community looks forward to working with him.”

Bersoff is chairman of Greenwich Associates, a business advisory firm, and is also managing director and founder of PFF, a business finance company. Both are in Bethesda, Maryland. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from New York University and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program. He has taught mathematics at NYU, Kingsborough Community College in New York, Northeastern and Boston Universities in Massachusetts, and American University in Washington, D.C. Early in his technology career, he coauthored the first textbook in the software engineering discipline of software configuration management.

He joined Marymount’s board of trustees in 2013. In addition to that service, he is a past rector (chair) of the board of visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University, a former member of the board of trustees of Lasell College and New York University, and a past president of the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation.

“I’m excited and have a lot of respect for Matt Shank and the senior leadership at Marymount,” Bersoff said. “I believe strongly that faith-based organizations have a place in our society and need to be supported. I think Marymount also serves a population in this area and around the country that may not otherwise attend college. To me, its place in society is rather unique and that’s what excites me about it.”

Bersoff is also very involved in health care, serving for many years in a variety of governance capacities for the INOVA Health System, as a member of the VCU Health System board of trustees, and as a past chair of the board of directors of Holy Cross Hospital of Silver Spring, Maryland.

His extensive business career includes tenure as chairman and CEO of ATS Corporation, a publicly traded Northern Virginia-based company serving the information technology needs of the government and private sectors, and as chairman, president and CEO of BTG Inc., an information technology firm he founded in 1982.

He was the first chairman of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, was a director of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, chairman of the Professional Services Council, and a founder and the first chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council. He was recently appointed by Virginia’s governor to the board of the Virginia College Savings Plan.

Bersoff and his wife Marilynn, longtime Virginia residents, now live in Bethesda.
