Juneteenth 2024 Observance
As Juneteenth approaches, we have a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the enduring significance of this day in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas, signifying the end of slavery in the U.S. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a time to reflect on African Americans’ struggles, resilience, and achievements throughout history.
At Marymount University, we recognize the significance of Juneteenth and its importance in our ongoing journey towards equality and justice. This day serves as a reminder of societal progress while highlighting the work that still lies ahead in addressing systemic racism and fostering an inclusive and equitable campus community.
To celebrate Juneteenth and promote a deeper understanding of its historical significance, we have curated a selection of educational resources that can serve as valuable tools for personal reflection, classroom discussions, and community engagement. We encourage you to explore and share these resources with your colleagues, students, and friends.
