Prevent Zoombombing Using Zoom
What you can do before the meeting
Before your meeting begins, consider the below options to reduce the likelihood of unwelcome or disruptive participants joing your meeting.
ALERT: Send Zoom meeting links using Marymount communication tools and resources (e.g. Canvas, Email, etc.). Do not send meeting links using social media or other public forums.
Require a password
- Log into http://marymountuniversity.zoom.us/
- Click the name of the desired meeting.
- Click “Edit this meeting“
- Check Require meeting password
- In the text field, enter the desired password
- Click Save.
Send password seperately
You can configure Zoom to include the password in the meeting invite or you can distribute the password separately. Once all the intended particpants have joined, close the meeting. You can do this by selecting
- Go to “Manage Paricipants“
- Click “More” at the bottom of the panel
- Select “Lock Meeting” to prevent anybody else from joining.
Require particpants to authenicate
Only authenticated users can join means you can restrict users from joining only if they are Marymount faculty/staff/students.
- Log into http://marymountuniversity.zoom.us/
- Click Meeting
- Click Upcoming Meetings (or Personal Meeting Room)
- Select your desire meeting if you clicked Upcoming Meetings
- Click Edit this Meeting
- On the buttom section, check the box to the left of Only authenticated users can join
- Click Save.
Enable the waiting room
If you enable the waiting room, participants won’t be able to join the meeting until you admit them individually. This option works best for meetings with fewer numbers of attendees. To enable the waiting room:
- Click “Meetings”
- Click the name of the desired meetings
- Click “Edit this Meeting“
- Check “Enable waiting room“
- Click Save.
Lock the meeting
One a meeting is locked, no one else can join. To lock your meetings:
- In the Zoom meeting room window, click “Manage Participants“. A tab called participants should appear on the right.
- Click “More” in the bottom right
- Click “Lock Meeting”.
Designate a co-host
If you are mid-meeting and need to handle a disruption (for example, a participant is interrupting the session), there are several ways you can resolve the issue.
- In the Zoom meeting window, click “Manage Participants“. A tab called Participants should appear on the right.
- Hover over the name of the desired co-host and select More.
- Click Make Co-Host.
