Examples of Disability-Based Housing Accommodations
Disability-based housing accommodations may include the following.
- Residence location away from path-of-travel in a high traffic area.
- Residence location with proximity to outdoor access.
- Residence location with proximity to a public bathroom available in addition to a bathroom offered within that unit.
- Residential suite common area to be shared with no more than one to two other persons.
- Residential suite kitchen to be shared with no more than one to two other persons.
- Residential suite bathroom to be shared with no more than one to two other persons.
- Residential rooms and common areas fitted with high-quality ventilation filters installed in the circulation output registers.
- Residential room power outlets to be configured to manage a high-power load capacity to sustain medical equipment.
- Residential room, common area, kitchen, and bathroom to be wheeled mobility device accessible (e.g., wheelchair, seated scooter motorized and non-motorized knee walker).
- Residential room and/or suite entrance door made operable by an automatic power opener. The open switch may be located at both waist and floor level.
- Residential safety protocol assures the student either a safe in-place response or safe evacuation from the building.
- Residential room strobe evacuation lights.
- Residential allowance for cohabitation with an emotional support animal.
