Our Primary Functions

  • To identify and develop quality and accessible international programs which promote global perspective, creativity, discovery and excellence in higher education.

Aki Regan

Advisor, Global Education Office

Direct: 703-247-8058

Aki advises for the following programs:

  • Summer Study Abroad
  • Global Scholars
  • Study Abroad Ambassadors
With over 5 years of experience in the international fields of education and government, Aki is a firm believer that IE has the potential to change the world. After studying abroad in Kyoto, Japan as an undergraduate student, she was determined to work abroad post-grad. For 2 years, she taught English in rural Japan through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program and later stayed to help with revitalization efforts through tourism, which gave her unique opportunities to facilitate conversations between locals and non-Japanese residents for the goal of cultural exchange and understanding. Upon returning to the States, she worked closely with people across DC, Maryland, and Virginia — creating and coordinating free cultural presentations on Japan, and advising students on study abroad and work opportunities there. She joined the Marymount’s Global Education Office in Fall 2023, as an advisor to continue her passion for promoting cross-cultural exchange and cultivating curiosity. As the Global Education Advisor, she is excited to get to know students to see how they can map out a study abroad plan that fits their needs as well as their academic and professional goals.
Aki holds a B.S. in Communications (Public Relations) with a minor in Nonprofit Management from Appalachian State University, and is currently pursuing her M.A. in Intercultural & International Communications (Transnational Education) at American University’s School of International Service.
Aki’s Global Bucket List:
  • Go on a road trip around Iceland and see the northern lights
  • Hike the Inca Trail in Peru
  • Finish seeing all seven of the World Wonders (so far, I’ve seen Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza, and Petra)
