Fall Semester is here!

Fall Semester is here!

Welcome back MU faculty, students, and staff! We hope your summer was fun, relaxing, and memorable. During the summer, the School of Education has been very busy.  Dr. Ana Lado inaugurated a literacy lab, part of her 3E camp for the Arlington community.  3E stands for Explore STEM, Enrich literacy skills, and Enjoy every moment. The parental feedback of their campers’ experience was amazing!  Many thanks to Dr. Lado and our graduate and undergraduate students for overseeing the many facets of the summer camp.

This past May, the School of Education earned its seven year accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) thanks to the leadership of Dr. Jessica Marotta who orchestrated a well-designed continuous improvement plan as part of a detailed self-study.  In April, Dr. Elizabeth Langran hosted the annual Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) conference as its president. Also in May, four students from the School of Education were recognized at the Student Research Conference (SRC): Melinda Gomes, Allison Beresford, Will Thompson, and Francies Stephenson, for their well-executed research presentations.

If you see Sr. Patricia around campus, be sure to congratulate her as the Catholic School Leadership Program in Supervision and Administration celebrated its 20th year!!  She continues to develop and nurture the next generation of school leaders.

Our new online doctoral program in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation will be one year old this fall.  We have 100 phenomenal EdD students continuing their hard work while supporting their schools, organizations, and communities as they collaborate and grow in their skillset and content knowledge.  We will have about 100 more doctoral students starting this fall, doubling our enrollment, and capacity to positively affect change across the globe! Hats off to Dr. Clara Hauth and Dr. Lisa Turissini, the program’s leadership and biggest cheerleaders.  Their tireless efforts and personal touch have made this a showcase program.

As our education programs continue to grow and attract excellent students, we have added talented new faculty and staff to support our programs.  A big welcome to the following new faculty and staff who are ready to contribute to our fabulous School of Education:  Dr. Nicci Dowd (Special Education), Dr. Marcia Baldanza (MEd & EdD), Dr. Paula Azevedo (ECE), Dr. Shannon Melideo (EdD), Dr. Ruth Boyd (EdD), Dr. Jen Crystle (EdD), Dr. Kristin Neun (Special Education) and Stacy Revel (Admin. Asst).

We’re so excited to see everyone back on campus this fall and we look forward to the many accomplishments of our students, staff, and faculty.  Here’s to a great fall semester!
