So, how does this all work? There are three components to the BBA program. First, is a series of general education courses required of all students at Marymount University — “The Liberal Arts Core (LAC).” These non-business courses offer students the breadth of knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s complex global, business environment.
Second, is “The BBA Core” (see below). That is, all BBA students take courses in accounting, business law, economics, finance, international business, management, management science, and marketing. These courses create the foundation upon which students build their business expertise.
Third, typically beginning in the junior year, students begin their “deep dive” into an area of specialization. We call these areas of specialization, “The Minor.” The Minor is a means of creating a highly customized program to meet students’ interests and provide them with the credentials and skills that employers in the “What’s Next Economy” expect. The SBT has minors in all the traditional areas of business (i.e., Economics, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource and Talent Management, International Business, Marketing, and Sport Management). And if you’re interested in focusing more deeply in the field of Accounting, there is the B.S. in Accounting program. Additionally, as an alternative means of customizing their program, students may opt to pursue their BBA minor in an Information Technology related field.
To fulfill the requirements of the major, all students in this program will take the following BBA Core coursework in a sequence determined in collaboration with a faculty advisor as well as a Business or IT related Minor. All students also must fulfill Liberal Arts Core and University requirements, and some of the following courses may also satisfy those requirements.
