Summer Hours

Announcing 2026 Summer Friday Hours!

In appreciation of all you’ve done—and all that lies ahead—we’re pleased to offer Summer Hours again this year as a small token of our gratitude. Beginning Friday, June 5, through Friday, July 31, university offices will close at 1:00 p.m. every Friday.

There are exceptions to note:

  • Friday, June 19 – University closed
  • Friday, July 3 – University closed

All offices must remain staffed until 1:00 p.m. Some departments may have responsibilities that extend beyond that time. If so, managers will ensure coverage and affected employees may be offered alternate time off—with approval—before summer ends. However, alternate time is not guaranteed.

Employees will receive up to 28 hours of additional time off this summer—without any reduction in pay or requirement to make up the hours.

Guidelines for Summer Friday Hours

  • Employees are required to complete work on time; the shortened day must not interfere with fulfilling our students’ needs and maintains the necessary services for internal and external constituents.
  • Summer Friday Hours applies to administrative employees and those with flexible or remote work. Part-time employees are not eligible for early release.
  • Some departments may have responsibilities that extend beyond that time. If so, managers will ensure coverage and affected employees may be offered alternate time off—with approval—before summer ends. However, alternate time is not guaranteed.
  • Campus service leaders can determine if and how time off may be honored for those campus service operations that are unable to close early.

Hourly/Non-Exempt Staff Entering in Paid Summer Friday Hours:

  • Log in Workday
  • Enter regular time worked
  • Then, enter in up to 4 hours and select “Summer Closure Hours”
  • (Summer Hours paid is non-worked time and therefore not subject to overtime)

Other Time Off and Summer Friday Hours:

  • Employees who call out sick on an early release day must take a full sick day.
  • For an employee on approved leave, Summer Friday Hours do not apply.
  • Employees with pre-approved vacation for the mornings of early release Fridays will use a half-day vacation on those days. For hourly staff, enter 4 hours vacation and 4 summer closure hours.
  • The time provided on the afternoons of early dismissal Fridays is not considered vacation time; therefore, time does not accumulate, nor is it paid out after the employee leaves the university.
