Marymount University Names Alison S. Gregory University Librarian

Dr. William J. Ehmann, provost and vice president for academic affairs and enrollment management, has announced that Alison S. Gregory will join Marymount University as university librarian on July 2. Gregory has served as associate dean and director of library services at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania since 2013.

“Her research spans important and relevant topics from information literacy, to librarian-faculty partnerships, to plagiarism and social media, to problem-based learning,” Ehman said. “She is committed to the idea of the library as a partner with faculty, staff, students and community and her early interactions with members of our community showed that she is open, collaborative, and committed to our mission.”

She has held several positions at Lycoming’s Snowden Library since earning her master’s degree in library science from Clarion University in 2005. She completed the Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians and earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Lycoming.

Gregory is excited to be making the move to Marymount.

“I really like the University’s emphasis on the liberal arts core, but also the approach that it takes to ensure that students are going into fields that are in high demand while getting that well-rounded education,” she said.

With Gregory’s appointment, Ehmann said the position’s title has changed from dean of library and learning services to university librarian in order to reflect the elevated role the library plays across the entire University. She will be a member of Ehmann’s senior staff.

“I’m looking forward to being part of the conversation about larger curricular and strategic issues,” Gregory said, “and to developing the library’s role in implementing Marymount’s Quality Enhancement Plan of Empowering Students for Service.”
