The University is planning in-person, outdoor ceremonies for 2021 graduates during the May 14-16 weekend. Please note that all in-person ceremonies and celebrations described below are tentative and contingent on social distancing requirements from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the CDC during the months ahead and are subject to change.
Commencement ceremonies are planned to take place on the Converse Family Field on Main Campus and will include students who qualify for graduation from the Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 semesters. Due to social distancing requirements, each graduate will be allotted two (2) guest tickets for the commencement ceremony, and there will not be any open seating on the field.
In addition, the University is planning a separate event, A Celebration for the Academic Year: 2019-2020 Graduates, which will be held during this weekend on Main Campus.
New this year: Commencement ceremonies will be organized by College, and each ceremony will include graduate and undergraduate students together. In addition, each ceremony will include the hooding of the doctoral students, where appropriate.
The Recognition Day Award Ceremony will be prerecorded this year. Students will receive an email with information on how to access the video as well as how to pick up their awards.
