Student Work & Research
We sponsor two student-edited publications representing the best of student fiction and nonfiction.
- Magnificat: A Journal of Undergraduate Nonfiction is published once a year, and it represents the strongest student essays crafted as assignment responses.
- blueInk, Marymount’s annual creative journal, publishes poetry, fiction, and visual art.
Marymount’s prime location in the Washington area provides access to a variety of resources that enhance the educational experience for those studying English and Literature. Research Facilities available include:
- Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC): Marymount belongs to WRLC, the Washington area’s consortium of university libraries, which includes Georgetown University, the Catholic University of America, American University, Gallaudet University, George Mason University, George Washington University, and the University of the District of Columbia. The WRLC makes the shared resources of these institutions easily available to all Marymount students. Not only can you request materials through our library, you can also check materials out directly by visiting in person. Just remember your MUID card!
- Library of Congress: The nation’s largest library collection is open to the public, and Marymount English program’s introductory research course includes work at this historic site. Be sure to obtain your free Reader’s Card!
- Folger Shakespeare Library: The premier research institution in Shakespeare and Renaissance studies is located in Washington, DC.
Student-Faculty Research Projects
Students also work with faculty in one-on-one research projects. Recently, students have worked with English faculty on an archival project at the Library of Congress investigating how Anglo-American and Mexican-American women wrote about historical events, and a federally-funded digital project creating an open-access anthology of literature for classroom use.
Alumni Spotlight
My experience at Marymount helped me learn how to maintain an active drive and determination to achieve my goals. I had some difficult moments while working towards my degree, and many times it would have been easier to give up; but the programs, support of staff, and professors at Marymount helped me keep sight of what I wanted to achieve.
