Nearly 100 special needs athletes from Arlington and Fairfax counties will participate in the 21st Annual Northern Virginia Special Olympics Basketball Invitational Tournament from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 at Marymount University. The tournament will take place in the Universitys Rose Benté Lee Center, 2807 North Glebe Road. The free event is open to the public.
Sponsored by the Student Government Association, close to 300 Marymount students are expected to help make the tournament memorable for the 12 participating teams. Unique events will be held at halftime of each game, including routines by MUs award-winning cheer team and demonstrations by the varsity mens and womens basketball teams.
Our students love this event and look forward to it every year, said Anne Aichele, assistant director of leadership development at Marymount. She noted that a large number of the volunteers are student-athletes.
