President Becerra named Board Vice Chair for Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area

Marymount University President Irma Becerra was selected to serve as Vice Chair for the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area’s Board of Trustees.

The Consortium’s governing body consists of the 18 member university presidents and the Consortium’s President and CEO. President Becerra joins Gallaudet University President and Consortium Board Chair Roberta Cordano on the Board’s newly formed Executive Committee in this prestigious Vice Chair role. Additionally, she will serve concurrently as Board Treasurer.

Following this year, President Becerra will ascend to the Board Chair position for a two-year term. This will mark the third time in the Consortium’s history that Marymount has been represented in this top role. Previous tenures were held by President James Bundschuh from 2009-2011 and President Majella Berg, RSHM from 1992-1993.

“I am deeply honored to be selected to serve as Vice Chair for the Consortium’s Board of Trustees,” President Becerra said. “This role represents an incredible opportunity to foster collaboration and drive positive change in higher education across the national capital region. I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues to advance our collective goals and initiatives.”

Over the past 90 years, the Consortium has evolved into a powerful unifying voice for its members locally, regionally and nationally. It is a force for access and equitable economic and workforce development. It encompasses a broad portfolio of programs and initiatives that develop projects to enhance private/public partnerships while leveraging the reputation and talent of its diverse members and their location in the ‘world’s greatest college town.’

In addition to Marymount, Consortium members include Georgetown University, George Washington University, University of Maryland and George Mason University, among others.

President Becerra is involved in other leadership roles outside her duties at Marymount and the Consortium. She serves as Vice Chair of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC), Chair of the Finance, Audit and Investment Committees of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and board member for the Greater Washington Board of Trade, Northern Virginia Technology Council, United Educators and the Science Museum of Virginia.
