Public Speaking course to visit Greece in Spring 2019!

During the Spring 2019 semester, Dr. McFarlane’s CMD 101: Public Speaking course will be part of the Global Classroom Series. Because the Greeks were the first to organize standards for the so-called art of public speaking, students will be spending Spring Break in Greece, the birthplace of rhetoric and modern public speaking. The primary goal of this travel experience is to give students a firsthand opportunity to see the places where modern public speaking started. Students will visit locations such as Aristotle’s Lyceum, the Acropolis, the Agora, Ancient Corinth, and the famous theater in Epidaurus. Students will also learn about more contemporary uses of public speaking in Greece, such as through media and parliament. In addition to the public speaking element of the travel, students will be given opportunities to learn about the social and cultural aspects of Greek culture, which may serve as materials for assigned speeches upon our return.
