Honors & Organizations for English and Humanities Students

To enhance classroom learning and build a community of scholars, Marymount’s Department of Literature and Languages sponsors a variety of scholarly and creative extracurricular activities.

Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society

Graduate and undergraduate student who demonstrate strong academic performance are eligible for membership in Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society, which sponsors a visiting scholar lecture each fall.

Lectures, presentations, and theater outings are opportunities to hear from and mingle with faculty and peers.

  • Faculty share their research and creative work with students at Works-in-Progress presentations every semester.
  • Visiting poets bring their latest work to campus each semester, and students compete to represent Marymount at the Mount Vernon Poetry Festival.
  • The department regularly sponsors discount student theater outings to performances at many local venues including Arena Stage, the Kennedy Center, and the Shakespeare Theater Company.
  • The annual Student Research Conference provides an opportunity for majors to share their outstanding research with a University-wide audience.

Student publications provide opportunities for writers to share their best work with a larger audience.

BlueInk

Marymount’s annual creative journal, BlueInk, publishes poetry, fiction, and visual art.
