{"id":9148,"date":"2021-04-29T12:58:03","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T16:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/?p=9148"},"modified":"2021-05-07T16:52:16","modified_gmt":"2021-05-07T20:52:16","slug":"marymounts-2021-portfolio-in-motion-event-debuts-as-innovative-virtual-showcase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/blog\/marymounts-2021-portfolio-in-motion-event-debuts-as-innovative-virtual-showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"Marymount&#8217;s 2021 Portfolio in Motion event debuts as innovative virtual showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marymount University\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-design-and-art\/undergraduate-programs\/fashion-design-b-a\/portfolio-in-motion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 Portfolio in Motion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PIM) event, the culminating academic project for Marymount\u2019s Fashion programs and one of the largest student-produced events on campus, will be launched as a virtual film on May 6.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the theme of \u201cMetamorphosis,\u201d the event will showcase transformative creations by students in Marymount\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-design-and-art\/undergraduate-programs\/fashion-design-b-a\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashion Design<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-business\/undergraduate-programs\/fashion-merchandising-b-a\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashion Merchandising<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> programs.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe theme of \u2018Metamorphosis\u2019 was coined by our students in response to the challenging year of 2020,\u201d said Julia Ravindran, Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Marymount University. \u201cButterflies represent resurrection, hope, change and growth. The students connected this idea to the reality of the world they\u2019re living in and its effect on the fashion industry \u2013 the process of transformation being metamorphosis.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Marymount University 2021 Portfolio in Motion Fashion Show - Metamorphosis\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vUTSM164bOo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s fashion show is being planned and produced by eight students in the Fashion Merchandising program, alongside 20 Fashion Design students who have conceptualized garments and created an aesthetically pleasing and functional line of apparel. Students also collaborated with their peers in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-design-and-art\/undergraduate-programs\/graphic-design-b-a\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphic and Media Design<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program to create this year\u2019s logo and promotional advertisements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating students have the opportunity to see their creativity hit the runway, but are also provided invaluable feedback and career tips by an industry luminary, honored as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-design-and-art\/undergraduate-programs\/fashion-design-b-a\/portfolio-in-motion\/designer-of-the-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designer of the Year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2021 honoree is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-business-innovation-leadership-and-technology\/school-of-design-and-art\/undergraduate-programs\/fashion-design-b-a\/portfolio-in-motion\/designer-of-the-year\/2021-designer-of-the-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audrey Swanson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, owner of the upscale swim and resort wear company, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revelrey.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revel Rey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Swanson founded the company in Washington, D.C., in 2015, and has become an accomplished designer known for one-of-a-kind styles through hand-painted and design prints. The Revel Rey brand is a fashion-forward look, inspired by Swanson\u2019s love for culture and distinctive eye for architecture, and can be found at retail stores around the world, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Anthropology and Neiman Marcus.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">premiere online on May 6 at 6 pm. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new approach was developed by students and has provided a new perspective on the future of fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMaking PIM digital this year was not just a way for Marymount Fashion to adapt to a one-time pandemic, but an opportunity to grow our presence in a new way with tremendous outreach potential,\u201d Ravindran explained. \u201cThe students have put the same dedication and creativity into showcasing their works and talents in an innovative way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Marymount University\u2019s 2021 Portfolio in Motion (PIM) event, the culminating academic project for Marymount\u2019s Fashion programs and one of the largest student-produced events on campus, will be launched as a virtual film on May 6.
