\u00a0 \u00a0 Anne Vor der Bruegge has been named founding director of the Marymount University Nonprofit Resource Center in Partnership with the Arlington Community Foundation. The mission of the center is to educate local leaders and advance best practices in the nonprofit and philanthropic community through academic programs, consulting and research that examines issues of importance to the nonprofit community and the university.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vor der Bruegge previously served as community school coordinator at Carlin Springs Elementary School. She is also on the Arlington Partnership Foundation\u0092s board of directors, is the grant reviewer for the Arlington Community Foundation and volunteers with Arlington Street People\u0092s Assistance Network. She has worked with Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth and Families; Healthy Families Arlington; and Jubilee Jobs Inc. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in psychology and anthropology and a master\u0092s degree in planning and community development from the University of Virginia.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u0093We are fortunate to have Anne\u0092s extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, especially with organizational start-ups,\u0094 said Arlington Community Foundation Executive Director Wanda Pierce. \u0093She has demonstrated a deep knowledge of the Arlington community, which will be an asset in providing services that benefit nonprofits.\u0094
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Marymount President Matthew D. Shank said he was thrilled the center will utilize the talents of the university community.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u0093Through the application of the skills developed during their studies at Marymount, teams of students, under the guidance of a faculty member and an advisory board member, will address nonprofit organizations\u0092 business issues central to the clients\u0092 longer-term viability and effectiveness,\u0094 Shank said. \u0093In doing so, our students will provide a valuable service \u0096 at no cost to the client \u0096 while being exposed to issues that transcend the formal academic environment.\u0094
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Julian Fore, president of the board of trustees of the Arlington Community Foundation, envisions the center being at the forefront of issues affecting the community\u0092s nonprofits.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u0093By conducting research and disseminating information that shapes decision making with individual organizations and the sector as a whole, releasing research papers on pressing community issues and matters significant to the nonprofit sector, and holding signature events, the center will be the place for nonprofits in the area to gather and grow together.\u0094
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The center will raise awareness of the integral role nonprofit and philanthropic organizations play in Arlington and the Northern Virginia region. It will offer certificate programs in development operations, fund development, financial management, board development and management.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Its advisory board will work to advance the center\u0092s mission and goals and will consist of nonprofit and corporate leaders, Marymount faculty and staff, and the Arlington Community Foundation staff and trustees.<\/p>\n
