Shank has been selected for the NCAA Division III Presidents Council, the highest governing body in Division III. Dr. Shank will represent the Capital Athletic Conference as one of 18 Division III presidents on the council.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093This is an honor and a privilege,\u0094 Shank said. \u0093Intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of campus life here at Marymount and I welcome the opportunity to represent our conference at the national level.\u0094<\/p>\n<p>Shank has a strong background in sports. He pitched for the varsity baseball team at the University of Wyoming and is the author of the book,\u00a0Sports Marketing: A Strategic Perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Marymount has 17 intercollegiate teams, nine for men and eight for women. Under Shank\u0092s leadership, the university added men\u0092s baseball and volleyball, women\u0092s golf, and men\u0092s and women\u0092s triathlon. It was the first college in the United States to field a varsity triathlon program.<\/p>\n<p>Shank is the first representative from the CAC since St. Mary&#8217;s president Dr. Jane Margaret O&#8217;Brien served on the council in the early 2000s.\u00a0Shank previously served on the Presidential Advisory Group, which provides consultation and advice to the Presidents Council.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marymount University President Matthew D.
