The public is invited to join the Marymount University community on Friday morning, September 11, for events in observance of the 14th anniversary of the 9\/11 tragedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Members of Marymount\u0092s Student Government Association will place American flags on Ireton Hall lawn, at the heart of the main campus, 2807 N. Glebe Rd., to honor each of the 2,977 victims of the terrorist attack. Friday morning events will begin at 6 a.m. when Marymount Campus Safety Officers lower the United States flag to half mast.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
Marymount students who are U.S. Armed Forces veterans have been chosen to ring the campus bell four times at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., and 10:03 a.m. to commemorate the times the four planes went down. A campus-wide moment of silence will follow each bell ringing as the community remembers the victims and their families.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After the final bell ringing and moment of silence, at approximately 10:05 a.m., 26 Marymount students will alternate reading aloud the names of the victims at the site where the flags have been displayed on the Ireton Hall lawn. \u00a0<\/p>\n
A short prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. in front of Marymount\u0092s Sacred Heart of Mary Chapel.<\/p>\n
