Naomi Ayala will give a poetry reading from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Marymount University\u0092s Reinsch Auditorium, 2807 North Glebe Road. The event is free and open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Born in Puerto Rico, Ayala moved to the United States in her teens, eventually earning an MFA from the Bennington College Writing Seminars. Now living in Washington, D.C., she writes in both English and Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0She is the author of three books of poetry: \u0093Wild Animals on the Moon\u0094 (Curbstone Press), \u0093This Side of Early\u0094 (Curbstone Imprint: Northwestern University Press), and \u0093Calling Home: Praise Songs and Incantations\u0094 (Bilingual Review Press\/Arizona State University).<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0She is the translator of Argentinean poet Luis Alberto Ambroggio\u0092s book of poetry \u0093The Wind\u0092s Archeology\/La arqueolog\u00eda del viento” (Vaso Roto Ediciones, Mexico), a translation that earned the 2013 International Latino Book Award for Best Nonfiction Book Translation. Some of her work in Spanish appears in Al pie de la Casa Blanca: Poetas hispanos de Washington, DC (North American Academy of the Spanish Language).<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Ayala has received several fellowships from the D.C.
