Marymount University President Matthew D. Shank received the 2017 Community Partner Award from Edu-Futuro, an Arlington nonprofit that empowers under-resourced Latino and other immigrant youth through education, leadership development and family engagement. Dr. Shank was honored at Edu-Futuro\u0092s 19th anniversary celebration, \u0093Portraits in Excellence,\u0094 on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Top of the Town.<\/p>\n
\u0093Dr. Shank has been an incredible supporter of our program,\u0094 said Edu-Futuro Executive Director Jorge Figueredo, noting that Marymount\u0092s president has been generous with the use of campus space for the program, has worked with its students, and has been a keynote speaker at its Emerging Leader Program graduations. \u0093He speaks from the heart and we highly respect him.\u0094<\/p>\n
This year Edu-Futuro will serve more than 1,000 people \u0097 including children, youth, and adults \u0097 in its innovative and award-winning programs. Those programs include: the Saturday Spanish School, the Spanish Summer Academy, the Emerging Leaders Programs, the Robotics Clubs, the Parent Empowerment Programs, Social Services, and Workforce Development Services.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nancy Rodrigues, secretary of administration for the Commonwealth of Virginia, was the evening\u0092s keynote speaker. The corporate partner award went to Keller Williams Realty Metro Center.<\/p>\n
