The opening is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barry Gallery on Friday, March 2. The exhibition will run through April 2.<\/div>\n<div>\n\u0093My work explores social, political, environmental, and personal themes, and starts from a sense that the world is inexhaustibly interesting,\u0094 Proenza noted in her artist statement. \u0093I combine perception and other visual sources with memory, imagination, and narrative, and I work back and forth between drawing, painting, printmaking, and writing.\u0094<\/div>\n<div>\nSeveral of the works are part of a graphic memoir in progress, a chapter of which has been published in \u0093Rosebud\u0094 magazine.<\/div>\n<div>\nA California native, Proenza earned a Bachelor of Arts in literature at UC Santa Barbara\u0092s College of Creative Studies, a Master of Fine Arts in painting at New York Studio School and her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at The New School.<\/div>\n<div>\nHer written art reviews have been published in \u0093Art in America\u0094 and \u0093The Brooklyn Rail,\u0094 and her visual art appears on the covers of books from John Daniel &#038; Co. and CDs from CMH and Arhoolie.<\/div>\n<div>\nShe joined the Marymount faculty in August 2017 as an assistant professor of fine arts.<\/div>\n<div>\nThe Barry Gallery, located in the Reinsch Library at Marymount, 2807 North Glebe Road, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.
