{"id":19000,"date":"2024-03-04T12:47:42","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T17:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/?p=19000"},"modified":"2024-03-04T12:59:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T17:59:09","slug":"college-of-health-and-education-dean-presents-at-vanderbilt-nursing-simulation-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/blog\/college-of-health-and-education-dean-presents-at-vanderbilt-nursing-simulation-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Health and Education Dean presents at Vanderbilt nursing simulation conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Photo courtesy of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pamela Slaven-Lee, Dean of Marymount University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-health-and-education\/\">College of Health and Education<\/a>, traveled to Vanderbilt University in February to speak at the institution\u2019s first-ever Faculty Academy for Clinical Teaching Using Simulations (FACTS), held by <a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.vanderbilt.edu\/index.php\">Vanderbilt\u2019s School of Nursing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Joining her friend and mentor, Vanderbilt Nursing Dean<a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.vanderbilt.edu\/people\/bio\/pam-jeffries\"> Dr. Pamela Jeffries<\/a>, Dr. Slaven-Lee presented to the audience a newly released book, <em>A Practical Guide for Nurse Practitioner Faculty Using Simulation in Competency-Based Education<\/em>. Co-written by Dr. Slaven-Lee and Dr. Jeffries, it examines topics related to simulation design, development and implementation for nurse practitioner and other graduate-level nursing programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new educational requirements based on the AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses)&nbsp;Essentials&nbsp;and move to competency-based outcomes require nursing graduates to provide documented skill competencies to care for all types of patients in all types of diverse health care settings,\u201d Dr. Slaven-Lee explained. \u201cWhether a graduate is working in acute care, primary care or within the community, clinical simulations serve as a vital approach to creating student-centered, experiential learning that engages and prepares the graduate for real-world practice.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u201cOnce the exception, clinical simulations are becoming more commonplace in nurse practitioner programs.
