After gaining national recognition for the first time by U.S. News & World Report one year ago, Marymount University continues to climb in multiple national categories in the organization’s latest Best Colleges Rankings.

Marymount ranked third overall among all Virginia private institutions that are classified as national universities. The University also jumped 38 spots as a top performer on social mobility, and ranked 19 spots higher this year for the strength of its undergraduate Nursing program – which is now listed at the top among all private colleges and universities in the Commonwealth.

In addition, Marymount climbed eight spots for Campus Ethnic Diversity – now listed at No. 15 nationally and remaining the most diverse private institution in Virginia and the DMV area. For International Students, Marymount now ranks No. 35 nationally – higher than any other college or university in Virginia, and second among institutions in the DMV.

“It is incredibly rewarding to see the hard work and dedication of Marymount’s faculty and staff result in a growing prestige for our institution year after year,” said Dr. Irma Becerra, President of Marymount University. “These national rankings demonstrate that our University offers students an innovative curriculum that is truly life-changing and can get them to where they want to go in their careers and their lives as a whole.”

Scores from U.S. News & World Report are determined through several weighted key measures of quality that consist of graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources, graduation rate performance, financial resources and more. Social mobility, which is part of U.S. News’ outcomes measures, assesses how well schools graduate economically disadvantaged students through factors that include the graduation rates of first-generation college students and Pell Grant recipients. Rankings of undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs are based solely on peer assessment surveys completed by deans and senior faculty members of nursing schools and departments around the country.

For more information on the overall methodology used by U.S. News & World Report for its Best Colleges Rankings, click here.
