This coming January, Marymount University will offer intermediate and advanced English classes for the first time through the institution’s newly-launched Intensive English Language Program (IELP). Catering to international students and other individuals for whom English is not a primary language, the Program assists students in meeting their English proficiency needs while also providing a pathway to undergraduate admission at the institution.

Intensive English Language Program courses will follow Marymount’s academic calendar with Fall, Spring and Summer entry terms. The Program can be completed in as few as one or two semesters depending on language proficiency level, with a typical daily schedule that includes 100 minutes of listening and speaking, 105 minutes of reading and writing and 50 minutes of self-led instruction.

“This exciting new offering at Marymount offers students a unique experience in furthering their English language proficiency, while at the same time immersing themselves in Marymount’s college culture as they study on campus,” explained Dr. Hesham El-Rewini, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Marymount University. “IELP students will take their classes in the same buildings as Marymount undergraduate and graduate students, have the opportunity to study and use University library resources, attend engaging college events and interact with Marymount faculty and staff. It’s the perfect way to develop the necessary skills to succeed in today’s workplace while also growing personally and professionally.”

Two levels of study – High Intermediate and Advanced – are offered to students based on their English proficiency test scores at the time of their application to the program:

“Regardless of which level of study an IELP student is admitted to, they will be supported by Marymount’s dedicated faculty and staff who are invested in ensuring that they are successful in meeting both their English and academic goals,” said Dr. Stephanie Foster, Vice Provost at Marymount University.

For students hoping to study in a Marymount undergraduate program, conditional admission may be offered to those who are academically qualified based on previous academic experience. Interested applicants must submit the IELP application, official transcripts from all previously attended schools, a certified course-by-course evaluation for all postsecondary coursework completed outside of the U.S. and a résumé or CV should the applicant have any gaps in enrollment. Once accepted into the IELP program, students then work towards meeting admission requirements while studying Intensive English courses, and are then granted full admission into the undergraduate program of their choice when conditional requirements are met. Conditional admission applicants are not eligible for the Nursing (B.S.N.) or Nursing Accelerated Second Degree (B.S.N.) programs.

For comprehensive information on Marymount’s IELP program, click here.
