{"id":10321,"date":"2021-07-29T10:11:48","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T14:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/?p=10321"},"modified":"2022-05-16T20:02:27","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T00:02:27","slug":"dennis-slon-appointed-as-permanent-vice-president-for-university-advancement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/blog\/dennis-slon-appointed-as-permanent-vice-president-for-university-advancement\/","title":{"rendered":"Dennis Slon appointed as permanent Vice President for University Advancement at MU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After nearly two months leading <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/\">Marymount University\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/Support-MU\">Office of University Advancement<\/a> on an interim basis, Dennis Slon will stay on for the long term as the institution\u2019s permanent Vice President for University Advancement.<\/p>\n<p>Following his arrival on June 1, Slon quickly jumped in to support Marymount\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/faculty-and-staff\/office-of-planning-institutional-effectiveness\/strategic-planning\/momentum-strategic-plan-2019-2024\/\">ambitious Strategic Plan goals<\/a> by providing leadership and direction for all aspects of the University\u2019s fundraising, development and external and alumni engagement efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince coming on board, Slon has been an invaluable addition to my leadership team and he\u2019s already proven himself as an effective communicator,\u201d said Dr. Irma Becerra, President of Marymount University. \u201cIn just a short time, he\u2019s been instrumental in <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/blog\/president-becerra-advocates-for-legislative-solution-to-daca-at-white-house-and-capitol-hill\/\">organizing our legislative advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill to benefit our Dreamer students<\/a>, and in the Office of University Advancement, he\u2019s been busy formulating a blueprint for success in our next capital campaign while also preparing for October\u2019s Homecoming Weekend and our inaugural Halo Awards event, which will recognize changemakers in our community. Looking forward to the new academic year and beyond, we are very excited to have someone with such extensive results-driven experience occupying this position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven before joining the Marymount family, I was very familiar with the University\u2019s mission-driven focus and its genuine desire to help students on their academic and professional journeys. I also identified with the institution\u2019s emphasis on <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/about-mu\/our-inclusive-community\/\">diversity, equity and inclusion<\/a> as they reflect my own personal values,\u201d Slon explained. \u201cIn addition, President Becerra\u2019s dynamic energy and her Cabinet\u2019s talent and expertise led me to see the enormous potential for realizing the future vision of Marymount in the years ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slon\u2019s career features over 30 years of experience in higher education fundraising, having spent the bulk of that time as Senior Vice President of University Relations at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles. While there, he completed both the $411 million \u201cRight Place, Right Time\u201d capital campaign and a $103 million scholarship initiative, both of which exceeded initial institutional goals.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his time at LMU, Slon was the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Relations at UCLA and the Vice President for Development at the College of William &amp; Mary, where he also led highly successful campaigns.
