The goal of student learning assessment is to continue improving the academic quality of the institution. By examining student outcomes, Marymount is able to assure its effectiveness relative to its educational mission.<\/p>\n<p>Effective assessment of student learning outcomes answers three questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What knowledge, skills, and attitudes will successful students have acquired upon graduation?<\/li>\n<li>How well do students perform relative to these learning outcomes?<\/li>\n<li>How can programs improve to provide a stronger academic experience to students?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When conducted properly, learning outcomes assessment has benefits for the entire institution.\u00a0 It benefits students by ensuring they master the material of their degree program.\u00a0 It benefits faculty by providing the tools necessary to lead curricular renewal and development. Finally, it benefits the entire institution by giving the institution documented evidence of student learning and achievement, thereby validating the institution is faithfully meeting its mission and goals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/marymount.edu\/media\/Planning-Institutional-Effectiveness\/Assessment\/Resources\/Academic-Program-Assessment-Policy-102616.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/marymount.edu\/media\/Planning-Institutional-Effectiveness\/Assessment\/Resources\/Academic-Program-Assessment-Policy-102616.pdf\">Marymount University&#8217;s Policy on Assessment of Academic Programs<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Important Dates<\/h3>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>September-June<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Programs assess student learning.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>September\u00a0 30<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Program-level assessment reports on prior year are due, submitted to the Dean with a copy to PIE (assess@marymount.edu).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>September 30<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Applications to move to a two-year assessment reporting cycle are due.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>September-October<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>University Assessment Committee (UAC) reviews assessment reports.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>November<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>UAC sends feedback to programs, reports to Deans and President, programs make revisions to reports as needed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Reports<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/faculty-and-staff\/office-of-planning-institutional-effectiveness\/assessment\/assessment-of-student-learning\/student-learning-assessment-reports\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/Home\/Faculty-and-Staff\/Office-of-Planning-Institutional-Effectiveness\/Assessment\/Student-Learning-Assessment-Reports\">Student Learning Assessment Reports<\/a><br \/>\nMarymount&#8217;s academic programs submit annual assessment reports of\u00a0student learning relative to faculty-defined outcomes.
