June 12, 2017<\/span><\/p>\n June, 2023\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Human Resources<\/span><\/p>\n Faculty and Staff<\/span><\/p>\n Encouraging and assisting employees in their self-development is important to Marymount University. The Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange Programs help support employees and their dependents wanting to enhance their knowledge and education.<\/span><\/p>\n All regular, full-time employees whose 90-day probation period has been completed prior to the beginning of the semester or term are eligible for Tuition Remission at the undergraduate and graduate level.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Tuition Remission Requests are due before<\/em> the first day of class each Semester.<\/p>\n Those using Tuition Remission must be admitted as a student prior to taking classes. The application fee is waived for employees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The employee\u2019s job duties and responsibilities are given priority. Employees must schedule classes outside their regular university work hours or have a prearranged absence with the supervisor. See <\/span>1.4.1 Class Schedule<\/strong> below.<\/span><\/p>\n Employees who are on extended leave are not eligible for Tuition Remission. In cases involving medical leave a physician\u2019s release will be required prior to enrollment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Employees may enroll in a maximum of six (6) credits per semester.\u00a0 An employee may take a maximum of eighteen (18) credit hours in a 12-month academic year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Only classes that are regularly scheduled on a Marymount University campus in Virginia, including the London program, are eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n If several employees in a work area wish to enroll, but enrollments must be limited because of work demands, the following priority is to be followed by the authorizing manager: undergraduate degree, first master\u2019s degree, additional master\u2019s degree, non-degree course.<\/span><\/p>\n Employees, spouses, and dependent children are admitted into courses on a space-available basis, as determined by the appropriate academic dean and Vice President. If a course becomes over-subscribed, priority will be given to paying students.<\/span><\/p>\n Consortium classes, lab fees, study materials, and\/or books are not covered by Tuition Remission.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Some programs are limited to up to two (2) university employees using Tuition Remission. This occurs when classes are already full of non-Tuition Remission students. These programs are Keypath: Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Education (EDD), and Online Doctorate for Nursing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 1.4.1\u00a0 Class Schedule<\/b><\/p>\n The employee\u2019s job duties and responsibilities are given priority.\u00a0 Employees must schedule classes outside their regular university work hours.\u00a0 Any change in work schedule for time spent in class must be approved by the supervisor before registering for the class, see University Policy Absenteeism and Tardiness.\u00a0 Any hours in a work schedule change must be made up within the same 40-hour workweek or the time must be charged to annual leave. In the event of conflicts between requests for a schedule change to take classes and the department\u2019s ability to conduct business, management has the authority to modify or deny the request.<\/span><\/p>\n 1.4.2 Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n 1.4.3 Taxes<\/b><\/p>\n In accordance with Internal Revenue Code requirements, Employees enrolled in graduate courses will be taxed on the value of Tuition Remission Benefits in excess of an amount determined by the IRS per calendar year. Check with Financial Services for more information. The value of the Waiver for spouses and dependent children enrolled in graduate courses is taxable regardless of the amount.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 1.4.4\u00a0 Financial Aid<\/b><\/p>\n It is the responsibility of the employee to apply for all appropriate financial aid.\u00a0 Spouses and dependent children who intend to study full-time must apply for federal and state financial aid through the usual Financial Aid process. They must observe the deadlines for various forms of financial aid. Marymount University\u2019s benefit will cover tuition not covered by these aid programs.<\/span><\/p>\n 1.5.1\u00a0 Eligibility<\/b><\/p>\n This assistance is available to spouses and dependent children the first eligible semester after the regular full time employee completes their 90-day probation period. Assistance will total 100% of tuition after crediting applicable financial aid.<\/span><\/p>\n Employees\u2019 children who are not dependents for tax purposes will <\/span>not<\/span><\/i> be eligible for Tuition Remission.<\/span><\/p>\n If a spouse or dependent child become full-time Marymount University employees they are eligible to receive the Tuition Remission benefit and no longer receive a parent\u2019s or\u00a0<\/span>spouse\u2019s benefit (Tuition Remission benefits are not cumulative).<\/span><\/p>\n 1.5.2\u00a0 Undergraduate Tuition<\/b><\/p>\n Tuition Remission will be for not more than eighteen (18) credits in the fall semester and eighteen (18) credits in the spring semester and twelve (12) credits during all the summer terms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 1.5.3 Graduate Tuition<\/b><\/p>\n Tuition Remission will be for not more than twelve (12) credits in the fall semester and twelve (12) credits in the spring semester and nine (9) credits during all the summer terms.<\/span><\/p>\n Log into Workday.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tuition Exchange<\/span><\/a> (TE) is a <\/span>reciprocal scholarship <\/b>opportunity for the dependents of eligible faculty and staff at all<\/span> Tuition Exchange member schools<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 The number of student\u2019s \u201cexported\u201d each year by Marymount University varies and the availability of slots in any particular year are not guaranteed.<\/span><\/p>\n Dependent children of Marymount University employees who have been full time for a minimum of two (2) years, may choose from those participating colleges and universities. <\/span>If a parent leaves in the middle of the academic year, the student is allowed to complete the year on Tuition Exchange and then they are not eligible the following year(s).<\/span><\/p>\n Effective Date June 12, 2017 Last Revision Date June, 2023\u00a0 Responsible Party Human Resources Scope\u00a0 Faculty and Staff Purpose Encouraging and assisting employees in their self-development is important to Marymount University.
