What is Institutional Effectiveness?

Universities are facing increasingly complex challenges in an environment that is rapidly changing along multiple dimensions. It is critically important to ensure that our community’s efforts and resources are directed in ways that enable us to effectively achieve our mission while responding to these changes. Institutional effectiveness is a coordinated, systematic, research- and evidence-based, university-wide evaluative effort to ensure that we are fulfilling our mission and achieving the goals expressed in our strategic plan.

Marymount’s institutional effectiveness efforts are centralized in the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (PIE), whose work includes institutional research and decision support, program review, review of administrative units, student learning outcomes assessment, accreditation, and strategic plan evaluation and support.

Clear, accurate, and accessible reporting, including reporting for federal, state, and other external stakeholders, is one of PIE’s most critical responsibilities. For this reason, PIE serves as the official clearinghouse for accurate and reliable university data and information.

Our Mission

Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) serves the Marymount University community and advances Marymount’s strategic priorities by working in collaboration and partnership with university faculty, staff, and students to provide information, data, and analyses that support and strengthen evidence-based planning and decision-making at the University. PIE provides leadership and support in the University’s ongoing self-reflection and is the source of official data and information for the University.
