“Ethics & the Arts” is the theme for Marymount University’s 2016 Ethics Awareness Week, which will feature the GEICO Lecture by the chair of Art Education at Syracuse University. The public is invited to the free talk by James Haywood Rolling Jr. from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Reinsch Library Auditorium on Marymount’s Main Campus.
“The talk will be a combination of his ethical reflections both on creating and presenting art and the intersection he has from the perspective of race,” said Dr. Brian Doyle, director of Marymount’s Center for Ethical Concerns, which annually organizes Ethics Awareness Week. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how he engages our students because creativity is something that can help foster a free and socially conscious community.”
Dr. Rolling is a dual professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the School of Education at Syracuse University. He earned his MFA in studio arts at Syracuse and completed his doctoral studies in art education at Columbia University. He is the 2014 recipient of the National Higher Education Art Educator Award.
The annual GEICO Ethics Lecture is titled, “The Inalienable Architecture of Creative Activity as a Catalyst for our Liberty as Social Creatures.”
