{"id":1117,"date":"2020-10-16T15:17:48","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T15:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/developmenttwo.marymount.edu\/admissions\/?page_id=1117"},"modified":"2023-02-28T15:34:06","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T20:34:06","slug":"international-first-year-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/admissions\/intl-first-year-students","title":{"rendered":"International First-Year Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students wishing to enroll at Marymount University who are neither a U.S. citizen nor permanent U.S. resident (green card holder) are considered international students.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of citizenship or immigration status, students who are currently enrolled or have previously enrolled at a school outside of the United States may also be considered international applicants and be subject to additional international admissions requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Prospective applicants who have completed at least 12 semester credits or 18 quarter hours after high school graduation (or after completion of high school equivalency) at a college or university are not considered First-Year students and should apply as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/admissions\/intl-transfer-students\">International Transfer Applicants<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b><a href=\"https:\/\/apply.marymount.edu\/apply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/marymount.edu\/media\/Contact-Us\/button1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonapp.org\/school\/marymount-university\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/marymount.edu\/media\/Contact-Us\/button2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>International First-Year applicants must submit the following:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed application submitted through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apply.marymount.edu\/apply\">Marymount Application<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonapp.org\/school\/marymount-university\">Common App<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Official transcripts from all previously attended schools.<\/strong> Where appropriate, include official results and certificates of completion from national secondary school examinations such as GCSE\/GCE and WAEC. Certified English translations must be submitted for any transcripts not already in English.<\/li>\n<li>Verification of English language proficiency <a href=\"#English-Proficiency\">\u27aa<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A resume\/CV should an applicant have any gaps in enrollment<\/li>\n<li>Official standardized scores (SAT\/ACT) [optional]<\/li>\n<li>Letter(s) of recommendation (optional)<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement (optional, although highly encouraged)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Documents such as transcripts and test scores <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>must<\/strong><\/span><\/em> be received directly from the issuing institution\/test center to be considered official for admission consideration, and will not be accepted if submitted by the applicant. To ensure timely processing of your documents, we prefer documents to be sent electronically. Only then will we review and consider your application for admission.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a id=\"English-Proficiency\"><\/a>Demonstrate English Language Proficiency:<\/h3>\n<p>If English is not your native language, you must provide Marymount University with verification of your proficiency in English for admission consideration. English proficiency may be demonstrated by a test or waiver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Official test scores\u00a0<em><strong>must<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0be submitted directly from the test center to be acceptable. Scores must not be more than two years old.<\/p>\n<table style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #10069f;\">\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Test:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Minimum Score Requirement:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>SAT I<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">score of 450 on the Evidenced-based Reading and Writing section<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>ACT<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">score of 18 on both Reading and Writing sections<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>TOEFL\u00a0iBT<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">overall score within the range of 79<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>IELTS Academic<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">overall score of 6.0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>Pearson Test for English (PTE)<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">overall score of 54<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 253.375px;\"><strong>Duolingo English Test<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 464.188px;\">overall score within the range of 100-105<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h4>Potential Waivers for English Language Proficiency<\/h4>\n<h5><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW2772937 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW2772937 BCX0\">The English language proficiency requirement\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW2772937 BCX0\">is considered fulfilled<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW2772937 BCX0\">\u00a0if a student has completed one of the following:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">four consecutive years (grades 9 through 12) of college preparatory English (excluding ESL\/ELL\/ELD or remedial English courses) with grades of C or higher at a U.S. high school excluding Puerto Rico,<\/span><\/li>\n<li>completion of 30 credits from a U.S. regionally accredited institution\u00a0<u>AND<\/u>\u00a0completion of an English Composition course equivalent to Marymount\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iq2prod1.smartcatalogiq.com\/en\/Catalogs\/Marymount-University\/2020-2021\/Catalogs\/Undergraduate-Catalog\/Courses\/EN-English\/100\/EN-101\">EN101<\/a>\u00a0at a U.S. regionally accredited institution with a C or better, OR<\/li>\n<li>a conferred Associate, bachelor\u2019s, or master\u2019s degree earned from a U.S. regionally accredited institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Conditional Admission Consideration:<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prospective undergraduate international students who meet regular admissions requirements except for English language proficiency may apply for conditional admission through\u00a0 Marymount University&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/intensive-english-language-program-ielp\/\"><b>Intensive English Language Program (IELP)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a selective program. Acceptance is based on an evaluation of high school transcripts and\/or university-level coursework and meeting minimum English language proficiency test score requirements. Once in the program, students work toward meeting admission requirements while studying in the Intensive English course.
