{"id":1034,"date":"2020-10-15T20:02:27","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T20:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/developmenttwo.marymount.edu\/admissions\/?page_id=1034"},"modified":"2026-06-04T10:13:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T14:13:34","slug":"satisfactory-academic-progress-standards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/admissions\/financial-aid\/resources\/satisfactory-academic-progress-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Discover Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Satisfactory Academic Performance (SAP) Standards for Students Receiving Federal Student Aid<\/h2>\n<p>As required by Federal Regulations, students must maintain a minimum level of academic progress in order to continue receiving federal financial aid.\u00a0 Academic progress of aid recipients will be reviewed annually at the end of the spring semester.\u00a0 Students who are not making minimum progress in any of the categories as defined below will be considered to be ineligible to receive financial aid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn order to continue receiving federal financial aid, academic progress is measured in the following three ways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0<u>Qualitative Standard:\u00a0 A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA)<\/u>\n<ul>\n<li>All Undergraduates must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.0<\/li>\n<li>All Graduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li value=\"2\">\u00a0<u>Quantitative Standard:\u00a0 A minimum completion rate.<\/u>\n<ul>\n<li value=\"2\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em><strong>Completion rates<\/strong><\/em><\/span> are calculated by dividing the number of completed credits against the number of attempted credits.\u00a0 ALL students must have successfully completed 67% of all hours attempted.\u00a0 This calculation includes all classes taken at Marymount (including developmental).<\/li>\n<li value=\"2\"><em><strong>Incompletes, Withdrawals, Repeats and Failing grades<\/strong><\/em> all count toward your attempted but not completed credit hours.<\/li>\n<li value=\"2\"><em><strong>Transfer credits<\/strong><\/em> are counted both in attempted and completed.<\/li>\n<li value=\"2\">Students should be aware that, for federal financial aid purposes, you can only receive federal financial aid toward <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>one retake<\/strong><\/span> of a previously passed course or its equivalent.\u00a0 This means that once a student has passed a particular course, Financial Aid can count that student as being enrolled in that course only one more time for federal aid purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"3\"><u>Maximum Timeframe for Completion:<\/u>\n<ul>\n<li value=\"3\">All <em><strong>students<\/strong><\/em> must complete their program of study by attempting no more than 150% of the hours normally required for completion.\u00a0 For example, an undergraduate program of study that is normally completed in 120 credit hours, financial aid eligibility will be suspended once it is mathematically impossible for a student to graduate before attempting\u00a0 180 credit hours or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Loss of Eligibility due to Academic Progress:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A student who has lost eligibility to participate in federal student aid for reasons of academic progress will be ineligible for financial aid unless they choose to appeal for reinstatement and\/or are meeting the minimum requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to view your Satisfactory Academic Progress:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To see your most recent Satisfactory Academic Progress Evaluation, log onto Workday and under the menu option, click &#8220;Add&#8221; at the bottom of the screen. In the search bar, type in SAP. You can add this app to your Workday profile which will allow you to monitor your Cumulative GPA, Pace, and Maximum Timeframe.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong>Appeals<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>Appeals:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeals will only be accepted for extenuating circumstances.\u00a0 The appeal may not be based upon your need for assistance OR your lack of knowledge that your assistance was in jeopardy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An appeal must be based upon some unusual situation, condition or other mitigating circumstances which prevented you from passing courses, or which caused you to withdraw from classes. <em>Examples of possible situations include documented serious illness, severe injury or death of a family member.\u00a0 <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Appeal:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">You should receive a \u201cSatisfactory Academic Progress Status Acknowledgement\u201d action item under the \u201cAwaiting Your Action\u201d task list in Workday.
