Students are placed in a variety of school settings including public, private, Catholic, or independent schools in the greater Washington, DC, area. Students may request the school division in which he or she wants to student teach.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During student teaching you&#8217;ll have the opportunity to be guided and mentored by a highly qualified teacher and university supervisor. In one semester you\u2019ll gain a better understanding of the theories discussed in your courses, explore your own teaching practices, and work with an incredible team of teachers and students.\u00a0 The experience of student teaching is a challenging one, but also filled with so many rewards, learning experiences and professional and personal growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to prepare yourself for student teaching, all teacher candidates must have completed content, curriculum, and methods courses and field experience related to their endorsement area. In addition, students must complete all required testing for their endorsement area. Marymount\u2019s Office of Education Clinical Experiences within the School of Education provides students with support, information, and guidance as they work towards completing all requirements for their student teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Out-of-area student teaching placements are available and may be arranged by the Office of Education Clinical Experiences. Students may also student teach abroad. Placements are currently available in <strong>Colombia, Panama, New Zealand, and Uganda.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information on any aspect of the student-teaching application process, please contact the Office of Education Clinical Experiences: <a href=\"mailto:ece@marymount.edu\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ece@marymount.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Careers<\/h3>\n<p>This program will prepare you to be licensed teacher in one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elementary Education (grades PK-6)<\/li>\n<li>Special Education: General Curriculum (grades K-12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Marymount students continue to be hired as contracted teachers upon graduation, particularly in the areas of elementary education, special education, and secondary math and science. We have 100% job placement rate.<\/p>\n<p>Your VA license may be transferred to the other states per the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdtec.net\/page\/interstate\">NASDTEC<\/a>) Interstate Agreement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The student teaching internship covers 14 weeks, Monday through Friday in the last semester of the program.
