The student teaching internship covers 14 weeks, Monday through Friday in the last semester of the program. Students are placed in a variety of school settings including public, private, Catholic, or independent schools in the greater Washington, DC, area. Students may request the school division in which he or she wants to student teach.<\/p>\n

During student teaching you’ll have the opportunity to be guided and mentored by a highly qualified teacher and university supervisor. In one semester you\u2019ll gain a better understanding of the theories discussed in your courses, explore your own teaching practices, and work with an incredible team of teachers and students.\u00a0 The experience of student teaching is a challenging one, but also filled with so many rewards, learning experiences and professional and personal growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to prepare yourself for student teaching, all teacher candidates must have completed content, curriculum, and methods courses and field experience related to their endorsement area. In addition, students must complete all required testing for their endorsement area. Marymount\u2019s Office of Education Clinical Experiences within the School of Education provides students with support, information, and guidance as they work towards completing all requirements for their student teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n

Out-of-area student teaching placements are available and may be arranged by the Office of Education Clinical Experiences. Students may also student teach abroad. Placements are currently available in Colombia, Panama, New Zealand, and Uganda.<\/strong><\/p>\n
