So you’d like to be a teacher? Marymount offers one of the leading teacher-education programs in the greater Washington, DC area. MU’s undergraduate education programs are unique in the Northern Virginia area.<\/p>\n

All education programs are designed to prepare graduates to enter the job market as beginning professionals in their respective disciplines. Marymount alumni teach in public, private, Catholic, and independent schools.<\/p>\n

In order to become a teacher, the Commonwealth of Virginia expects you to become an expert in the subject matter you will be teaching. So, you need to choose a major for the discipline or population you\u2019d like to teach, then supplement that coursework with classes to earn teaching licensure.<\/p>\n

Marymount\u2019s teacher preparation programs are accredited by the\u00a0<\/strong>Virginia Department of Education: Division of Teacher Education and Certification<\/strong>\u00a0of the Virginia Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).<\/p>\n

Whether you are a first year or transfer student, or are about to complete your undergraduate degree, a passion for working with young people may lead you to consider teaching as a career. Please know we can help you pursue that goal through our teacher preparation programs that include Virginia licensure. We offer four-year undergraduate degree programs in elementary education and special education.<\/p>\n
