Program Training Requirement:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">At its February 2026 meeting, the CACREP board amended this policy. The revised policy is below, and is effective as of February 9, 2026:<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Beginning July 1, 2026, programs, regardless of program delivery method, require and deliver\u00a0<\/b><b><u>synchronous experiences\u00a0<\/u><\/b><b>to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions for all students at least at two points throughout the student\u2019s program of study of which one occurs prior to the practicum.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The interpretation of this policy is as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">1. \u00a0 \u00a0 The requirements of this policy are applicable to all students entering the counselor education program on or after July 1, 2026.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">2. \u00a0 \u00a0 Counseling students must participate in\u00a0<b><u>synchronous<\/u><\/b>\u00a0experiences that will allow the program to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions at a minimum of two points throughout the students\u2019 program of study for entry-level and doctoral students.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">3. \u00a0 \u00a0 The required\u00a0<b>synchronous<\/b>\u00a0experiences may be provided in person (i.e. on campus or at another physical location) and\/or may be digitally delivered.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">4. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<b>For entry-level students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to practicum.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">\u2002\u2002\u2002\u2002<b>For doctoral students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to the doctoral internship.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">5. \u00a0 \u00a0 The goals are to:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">a) \u00a0 \u00a0 observe each student\u2019s professional behaviors with university staff and with peers;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">b) \u00a0 \u00a0assess students to ensure they can deliver core counseling skills;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">c) \u00a0 \u00a0 assess professional dispositions, and<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">d) \u00a0 \u00a0provide feedback to students regarding strengths and areas for improvement or remediation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><u>Online Ph.D. In Counselor Education and Supervision students\u00a0<\/u>will be required to be available for observation and assessment to meet this standard on or around the following timeframes (TBD at mandatory orientation):<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">CE801: Clinical Skills Assessment (Year 1, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">CE805: Internship in Counselor Education (Year 2, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><u>Online and On ground M.A. Students in CMHC and CMHC with a concentration in Pastoral\u00a0<\/u>will be required to be available for observation and assessment to\u00a0meet this standard on or around the following timeframes (TBD at mandatory orientation):<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Online Cohort CE522: Individual Skills (Fall of Year 1) and Year 2 CE597: Practicum in CMHC (Spring Year 2)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">On ground students: CE522: Individual Skills (Fall or Spring, Year 1) and CE597: Practicum in CMHC (Spring Year 2)<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Counselors change lives\u2014and the world needs more of them.
