At its February 2026 meeting, the CACREP board amended this policy. The revised policy is below, and is effective as of February 9, 2026:<\/span><\/div>\nBeginning July 1, 2026, programs, regardless of program delivery method, require and deliver\u00a0<\/b>synchronous experiences\u00a0<\/u><\/b>to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions for all students at least at two points throughout the student\u2019s program of study of which one occurs prior to the practicum.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\nThe interpretation of this policy is as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n1. \u00a0 \u00a0 The requirements of this policy are applicable to all students entering the counselor education program on or after July 1, 2026.<\/span><\/div>\n2. \u00a0 \u00a0 Counseling students must participate in\u00a0synchronous<\/u><\/b>\u00a0experiences that will allow the program to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions at a minimum of two points throughout the students\u2019 program of study for entry-level and doctoral students.<\/span><\/div>\n3. \u00a0 \u00a0 The required\u00a0synchronous<\/b>\u00a0experiences may be provided in person (i.e. on campus or at another physical location) and\/or may be digitally delivered.<\/span><\/div>\n4. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0For entry-level students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to practicum.<\/span><\/div>\n\u2002\u2002\u2002\u2002For doctoral students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to the doctoral internship.<\/span><\/div>\n5. \u00a0 \u00a0 The goals are to:<\/span><\/div>\na) \u00a0 \u00a0 observe each student\u2019s professional behaviors with university staff and with peers;<\/span><\/div>\nb) \u00a0 \u00a0assess students to ensure they can deliver core counseling skills;<\/span><\/div>\nc) \u00a0 \u00a0 assess professional dispositions, and<\/span><\/div>\nd) \u00a0 \u00a0provide feedback to students regarding strengths and areas for improvement or remediation.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Online Ph.D. In Counselor Education and Supervision students\u00a0<\/u>will be required to be available for observation and assessment to meet this standard on or around the following timeframes (TBD at mandatory orientation):<\/span><\/div>\nCE801: Clinical Skills Assessment (Year 1, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\nCE805: Internship in Counselor Education (Year 2, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
