{"id":37142,"date":"2025-09-03T11:09:24","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T15:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/?page_id=37142"},"modified":"2025-12-12T12:31:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:31:52","slug":"counseling-scholars","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-health-and-education\/school-of-counseling\/counseling-scholars\/","title":{"rendered":"Counseling Scholars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are interested in the field of Counseling and have a strong academic profile, Marymount\u2019s Counseling Scholars Program offers you an opportunity for priority consideration in the university\u2019s graduate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-health-and-education\/school-of-counseling\/graduate-programs\/counseling-m-a\/\">Counseling MA<\/a> admissions process.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>The Counseling Scholars Program is open to a select group of incoming first-year and transfer students who are chosen by the Counseling Admissions Committee and must meet specific continuation requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To be accepted into the program, first-year and transfer students must have:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above<\/li>\n<li>Declared <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/college-of-sciences-and-humanities\/school-of-social-and-behavioral-sciences\/undergraduate-programs\/psychology-b-a\/\">psychology<\/a> as their major<\/li>\n<li>Completed the essay portion of the Scholars Program application addressing their interest and commitment to the field of Counseling (500-word minimum)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>To be accepted into the program, current students must have:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A college grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or above in their psychology courses<\/li>\n<li>Completed the essay portion of the Counseling Scholars application addressing your interest and commitment to the field of Counseling (500-word minimum)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To continue in the program, a student must:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain an overall GPA of 3.2 in their psychology courses<\/li>\n<li>Complete designated psychology courses<\/li>\n<li>Complete a counseling-oriented research project and internship<\/li>\n<li>Attend at least 2 Counseling Department events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, please contact&nbsp;<span id=\"eeb-629152-28064\"><a href=\"mailto:admissions@marymount.edu\">admissions@marymount.edu<\/a> and visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/admissions\/scholars-programs\/\">Guaranteed and Preferred Graduate Admission Pathways page<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Counseling Scholars application is closed&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Fall 2025 cohort<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are interested in the field of Counseling and have a strong academic profile, Marymount\u2019s Counseling Scholars Program offers you an opportunity for priority consideration in the university\u2019s graduate&nbsp;Counseling MA admissions process.
