MISSION<\/strong><\/p>\n The mission of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision is to prepare and train post-masters professional counselor educators to function as leaders, clinicians, supervisors, higher education professionals, and researchers who seek careers in higher education, clinical or research settings, supervisory positions in schools and agencies, and other professional leadership roles; and to address a diverse, multicultural, and global society with marginalized populations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Doctoral programs in counselor education address professional roles in five areas: (1) counseling, (2) supervision, (3) teaching, (4) research and scholarship, and (5) leadership and advocacy. These five areas represent the minimal knowledge required of doctoral graduates in counselor education (CACREP 2024 Doctoral Standards). <\/span><\/p>\n PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Consistent with the mission of the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision and in accordance with CACREP 2024 Standards for Doctoral Programs, the program will integrate the following program objectives through activities in doctoral coursework. Students are assessed over a variety of courses using key performance indicators (KPIs) and common assessments across the curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n Counseling:<\/b><\/p>\n Program Objective 1: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES will demonstrate proficiency of advanced counseling skills in clinical practices extending beyond entry-level competencies through advanced clinical experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n Research and Scholarship:<\/b><\/p>\n Program Objective 2: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES will engage in scholarly inquiry, conduct research, analyze data, and contribute to the counseling profession’s knowledge base under faculty supervision and mentoring.<\/span><\/p>\n Leadership and Advocacy:<\/b><\/p>\n Program Objective 3: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES will be prepared to assume leadership roles in the counseling profession and become advocates for the profession and clients.<\/span><\/p>\n Supervision:<\/b><\/p>\n Program Objective 4: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES will demonstrate and apply proficiency counseling supervision skills, including application of supervision models as well as ethical and best practices in counselor preparation.<\/span><\/p>\n Teaching:<\/b><\/p>\n Program Objective 5: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES will integrate evidence-based models of adult learning, develop curricular and instructional design, demonstrate effective teaching approaches in the classroom, and gain understanding of the various roles of counselor educators.<\/span><\/p>\n Technology: <\/b>Core Areas: B.3.Teaching<\/span><\/p>\n Program Objective 6: Graduates of the Ph.D. in CES\u00a0 will also become familiar with various current trends and technology use in the delivery of counseling services, counselor education teaching, and counselor supervision as well as ethical and best practices in technology integration.<\/span><\/p>\n Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accommodation Statement:<\/strong> MISSION The mission of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision is to prepare and train post-masters professional counselor educators to function as leaders, clinicians, supervisors, higher education professionals, and researchers who seek careers in higher education, clinical or research settings, supervisory positions in schools and agencies, and other professional leadership roles; […]<\/p>\n

\nThe School of Counseling is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the program. Efforts to attract a diverse student body and faculty include targeted marketing to underrepresented communities, posting program information on CESNET and ACA division listservs, and participating in and sponsoring regional, national, and international conferences. The program also attends and sponsors an international conference annually to recruit a globally diverse student population.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
