{"id":33756,"date":"2024-10-03T13:24:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T17:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/?page_id=33756"},"modified":"2024-10-03T13:24:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T17:24:39","slug":"classes-outside-of-marymount","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/center-global-engagement\/international-student-services\/current-students\/maintaining-your-f-1-status\/classes-outside-of-marymount\/","title":{"rendered":"Classes Outside of Marymount"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The process of being enrolled in classes outside of Marymount University is called <strong>Concurrent Enrollment. <\/strong>If you plan to enroll in a course at a different institution, such as Northern Virginia Community College, there are a few steps you will need to complete to ensure that your academic record and immigration record are maintained.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px\">Transferring Credits<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">If the course is being offered by a neighboring institution (including Northern Virginia Community College &#8211; NVCC\/NOVA), you should consult any posted<em> articulations<\/em> with those institutions, which can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Registrar-s-Office\/Transfer-Credit\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Registrar-s-Office\/Transfer-Credit\">Registrar\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If a Marymount University student wants to take a course at any school other than Marymount University and transfer the course back to Marymount for credit, they must take the following steps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Steps to Request Concurrent Enrollment<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Meet with your Academic Advisor and complete either the\u00a0<\/strong><a title=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/marymount.edu\/media\/registrar\/course-substitution-and-transfer-form.pdf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/marymount.edu\/media\/Registrar\/Course-Substitution-and-Transfer-Form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Link Course Substitution and Transfer Form\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/marymount.edu\/media\/Registrar\/Course-Substitution-and-Transfer-Form.pdf\"><strong>Course Substitution and Transfer Form<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(CSTF) <i>or<\/i> the\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/services-resources\/registrar-s-office\/registration-information\/consortium-registration\/\" href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/services-resources\/registrar-s-office\/registration-information\/consortium-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Link Consortium Registration Form\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/services-resources\/registrar-s-office\/registration-information\/consortium-registration\/\"><strong>Consortium Registration Form<\/strong><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Your Academic Advisor can help you select and complete the correct form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit the correct form<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>for processing<\/strong>\u00a0to<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>your academic department <i>or<\/i> to the office of the Registrar, depending on the form used.\n<ul>\n<li>This process may take up to three business days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Upload your <\/strong><strong><em>approved<\/em> form (whichever is appropriate for your situation) to the ISSS portal<\/strong>.\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the ISSS portal, click Tab 4, and select a &#8220;Class Outside Marymount&#8221; request.<\/li>\n<li>Your Course Substitution and Transfer Form<i> or\u00a0<\/i>Consortium Registration Form, whichever is the appropriate form for your situation,\u00a0<strong>must be signed by your Marymount University academic advisor<\/strong> before ISSS will review\u00a0your request.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you have provided the required documentation, ISSS will issue you a Concurrent Enrollment Letter, giving you permission to enroll at the other institution. <strong>You must submit a Concurrent Enrollment Letter request via the ISSS portal <em>even if your other school does not ask you for it.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px\">If you use the Course Substitution and Transfer Form:<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1.\u00a0 After you register for your course(s) at the other institution, upload a copy of that registration\u00a0(such as your course enrollment schedule) to the ISSS portal.<strong>\u00a0This is required so that ISSS can verify your full-time enrollment and maintain your F-1 status.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Once you complete\u00a0the course at the other institution:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Submit the<em> official<\/em> transcript from the other school to the Marymount Registrar&#8217;s Office. Note: you must earn a grade of C or higher to be eligible to transfer your credits to Marymount.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px\"><i><strong>AND<\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit a <em>copy<\/em> of your <i>official\u00a0<\/i>transcript to the ISSS office, regardless of your final grade(s). <strong>This is required to maintain your F-1 status.<\/strong>You must provide evidence that you completed the course(s) for a grade. Note:\u00a0if the course(s) and\/or credit(s) will be used to meet academic requirements to graduate from Marymount, then the credits must transfer to Marymount and appear on your Marymount academic record.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px\">If you use the Consortium Registration Form:<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">After you enroll at the other institution, upload a copy of that registration (such as your course enrollment schedule) to the ISSS portal. This is required so that ISSS can verify your full-time enrollment and maintain your F-1 status.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information about transferring credits<\/strong> to Marymount\u00a0University, including credit maximums and processes, can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Registrar-s-Office\/Transfer-Credit\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Registrar-s-Office\/Transfer-Credit\">Registrar\u2019s Office website<\/a> as well as in the University Catalog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DO NOT DROP ANY COURSE without prior Marymount academic advisor <u>and<\/u>\u00a0Marymount ISSS approval. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Maintain Full-Time Enrollment Status<\/h3>\n<p>Students who do not meet full-time study requirements, and who do not have an approved Reduced Course Load for the current semester, risk having their SEVIS record \/ I-20 terminated.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Undergraduate students\u00a0must be enrolled <i>for the entire semester<\/i> in a minimum of 12 credits combined, of which at least 9 credits must be in-person (face-to-face or hybrid).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Graduate students must be enrolled <i>for the entire semester<\/i> in a minimum of 9 credits combined, of which at least 6 credits must be in-person (face-to-face or hybrid).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt\">10\/03\/2024<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The process of being enrolled in classes outside of Marymount University is called Concurrent Enrollment.
