Social Security Letter<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 Driver’s License<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 Family Invitation<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 Sponsor<\/a><\/p>\n When applying for a Social Security Number<\/a> (SSN), the Social Security Administration office will require a letter signed by your Designated School Official (DSO) to confirm that you are an active F-1 student at Marymount University. [NOTE: your ISSS Advisor is a DSO.]<\/p>\n The ISSS Advisor will review your request. If we have questions or need more information, we will contact you through your Marymount student email account.<\/p>\n If you are under 18 years old<\/strong>, your parent, custodial parent, or legal guardian must provide written consent by signing your application. A court order showing that you are an emancipated minor is acceptable in lieu of written consent.<\/p>\n If you are under 19 years old<\/strong>, you must provide proof of successful completion of a state-approved driver education program and you must hold a learner’s permit at least nine months before you can receive a driver’s license.<\/p>\n If you are 18 years old or older<\/strong> and you have never held a license issued by any U.S. state, U.S. territory or a foreign country<\/em>, you must provide proof of successful completion of a state-approved driver education program or you must have held a learner\u2019s permit at least 60 days before taking the road skills test.<\/p>\n When applying for an original driver’s license in Virginia<\/a>, you must complete an application for a Virginia driver’s license. Use your full legal name. Abbreviations and nicknames will not be accepted.<\/p>\n Tests may include a vision screening, a two-part knowledge exam, and a road skills test. A Department of Motor Vehicles representative will tell you which tests you need to take. We advise that you study for the knowledge exam prior to arriving at the testing site.<\/p>\n You will not receive your new driver’s license or identification (ID) card during your Department of Motor Vehicles visit. Driver’s license applicants will be given a temporary driving permit that cannot be used for identification purposes. ID card applicants will be given a receipt. You will receive your new driver’s license or ID card in the mail.<\/p>\n Your new driver’s license or ID card will be produced within three days and mailed to you. Mail delivery times vary. Please allow up to 15 days<\/em> to receive your new card.<\/p>\n All first-time drivers licenses issued to persons under age 18 are sent to the judge of your local juvenile and domestic relations court. The court will notify you by mail about when and where you and your parent, custodial parent, or legal guardian must appear to receive your license. The Department of Motor Vehicles can deny or suspend driving privileges for persons under age 18 if the juvenile:<\/p>\n For a driver\u2019s license, you must bring two forms of personal identification, one proof of your legal presence, one proof of Virginia residency, and one proof of a Social Security Number (if you have one).<\/p>\n Your documents must show your full legal name and date of birth. You must present at least one document from the primary list<\/em>. The second proof may come from the primary or the secondary list:<\/p>\n ISSS does not provide letters or other documents of support related to a family invitation for graduation or other visits to the U.S. You do NOT<\/b>\u00a0need any letter or document from the ISSS to invite a family member as a B-2 visitor.<\/p>\n If you wish to invite family members to visit the United States for a short time on a B-2 visitor visa, you may provide them with the following:<\/p>\nSocial Security Letter<\/h3>\n
