{"id":32138,"date":"2024-07-22T10:35:39","date_gmt":"2024-07-22T14:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/?page_id=32138"},"modified":"2024-07-22T10:45:59","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T14:45:59","slug":"initial-immigration-check-in","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/center-global-engagement\/international-student-services\/new-international-students\/pre-arrival-checklist-for-international-students\/initial-immigration-check-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Initial Immigration Check-In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To report your SEVIS record change from Initial I-20 or Transfer-In Pending I-20 to <em>Continuing I-20<\/em>, ISSS first needs to verify your personal information, including U.S. address, receive an electronic copy of your valid passport identification\/photo page, F-1 visa from within your passport, Most Recent I-94, and I-20 signed by you, and confirm that you are enrolled in a full-time course of study for the semester\/term.<\/p>\n<p>ISSS needs this information and these documents to report to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security \/ SEVIS that you are on campus. Failure to complete mandatory ISSS check-in on time may have an adverse immediate or future impact on your immigration status.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Steps to Complete Mandatory Immigration Check-In<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Before attempting to complete mandatory ISSS check-in:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You must be physically present in the U.S.<\/li>\n<li>Verify that your U.S. address is correct in Workday<\/li>\n<li>You must be\u00a0registered for a full-time course of study<\/li>\n<li>It must not be more than 30 days prior to the program start date listed on your I-20 (exception may be possible for Transfer-In Pending I-20 students)<\/li>\n<li>Gather required information and electronic copies of documents needed for check-in<\/li>\n<li><strong>It is preferred that you complete immigration check-in during F-1\/J-1 international student orientation<\/strong>; however, earlier check-in may be possible in exceptional situations (contact isss@marymount.edu). You must submit your Immigration Check-In request via the ISSS portal no later than the Last Day to Add classes.<\/li>\n<li>Once SEVIS registered, you will be notified that your updated I-20 with Continuing status is available in your ISSS portal for you to review and download for your records. Be sure to keep a copy of all\u00a0 your I-20s issued, since you may need them in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>To submit your request for mandatory Check-In via the ISSS portal:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>It is preferred that you complete mandatory Check-In during F-1 new international student orientation. To begin, log in to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/international.marymount.edu\/\">ISSS Portal<\/a><\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Tab 4: Initiate &amp; Manage Requests<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to find the request icons, then select <strong>Immigration Check In Request &#8211; Maintaining Status<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Within the online request form, complete the <strong>Student Information (Questionnaire)<\/strong> then click Next.<\/li>\n<li><em>Carefully <\/em>read\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Maintaining Your F-1 Status Introduction<\/strong>\u00a0(Learning Content),\u00a0<strong>Government Regulations: Maintaining Your F-1 Status<\/strong>\u00a0(Learning Content) and the\u00a0<strong>Additional Important Marymount University Reminders<\/strong> (Learning Content) material. You will need to click Next after each Learning Content Section. You will take a quiz after completing this entire section.<\/li>\n<li>Take the <strong>International Student F-1 Regulations Pre-Arrival Quiz<\/strong> (Assessment). You have 3 attempts to receive a 14\/14 before you can move forward with the ISSS Check-In process. Click Submit Assessment to receive your score. Once you have received 14\/14, click Next. If you fail to receive 14\/14 within 3 attempts, contact isss@marymount.edu for further instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Upload <strong>required documents<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Passport identification\/photo page<\/li>\n<li>F-1 visa stamp from within your passport (or USCIS notice of Change of Status approval, if change of status)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/I94\/#\/home\">Most Recent I-94 Record<\/a> (make sure to download your I-94 Record, <em>not<\/em> your travel history)<\/li>\n<li>Current Form I-20, signed by you (or by your parent, if under 18 years old)<\/li>\n<li>Click Next after uploading all of the above listed documents<\/li>\n<li>You must: <strong>(1)<\/strong> electronically submit all of the required documents listed above,<strong> (2)<\/strong> add your U.S. address (must be within the DC metro area), and <strong>(3)<\/strong> be enrolled in a full-time course of study or have an approved Reduced Course Load approved in order for ISSS to be able to SEVIS register your record.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Read\u00a0<strong>F-1 Student Immigration Responsibilities Agreement<\/strong> (Signature Document) and check-mark to confirm.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Click Submit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Allow up to 10 business days for ISSS to review and process your request. Please monitor your Marymount student email account for communication from our office.
