The Spirit of Service Scholarship is a competitive program that supports student development in the areas of leadership and service and provides a scholarship of $2,500\/year. \u00a0As recipients of this prestigious award, SOS Scholars work closely with the Saints\u2019 Center for Service to develop long-lasting partnerships with agencies addressing a variety of community needs, including food insecurity, homelessness, educational support for at-risk youth, and social justice initiatives. \u00a0Scholars help to plan and actively participate in on-campus service events, including Saints Serve Saturdays, Community Engagement Fairs, and the MLK Day of Service, and off-campus events such as Volunteer Arlington Day. \u00a0As leaders and mentors who exemplify what it means to learn with purpose, SOS scholars collaborate with each other to generate and share creative and meaningful experiences through volunteerism and serving the greater good.\u00a0Learn more<\/a><\/p>\n

Saint Scholar<\/em><\/p>\n

Hi! My name is Ella Reither, and I am a freshman politics major from Columbus, Ohio. Outside of the classroom, I am a senator for Marymount\u2019s student government. I love finding new places to get coffee and food around DC, and I love going to Smithsonian with my friends. Coming from a big family, my biggest passion is for service opportunities that uplift children and help bring dignity to all people. Currently, I am involved in multiple tutoring programs, and I also organize a weekly sandwich making with a professor. I serve because all people deserve an opportunity to be their best selves, and sometimes they just need some help getting there! I serve because I want all people to feel the human dignity they deserve.<\/p>\n

Saint Scholar<\/em><\/p>\n

I enjoy doing a lot of creative things such as photography, painting, and drawing. I also like to do community-sponsored activities now that I’m living in the DC area. The service I’m most passionate about is becoming the photographer for events sponsored by the School of Art and Design at Marymount. Since I was younger, my family always reiterated the importance of serving others and the joy that people I’m serving along with myself will receive from it. As a result of this teaching, I’ve grown to genuinely enjoy helping others feel loved and appreciated. Serving others is also an essential part of my faith, so I try to fulfill my purpose of serving each day for those around me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
