Dr. Scruggs is the Assistant Provost for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (APDEI) as well as the Director of the ABIDE Hub. For more than two decades, she has developed expertise in crafting, implementing and monitoring strategic plans, projects and initiatives to promote equitable and inclusive cultures. Prior to joining Marymount, she held a variety of progressively responsible teaching and leadership roles rooted in promoting DEI at other academic institutions, nonprofits, and within government, including having served as principal advisor on research to Ambassador Susan Rice, Ambassador Samantha Power, and Ambassador Nikki Haley at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. <\/span><\/p>\n She is particularly proud of having served as a thought and strategy leader at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University and the City of Boston where she combined forces with fantastic, collaborative colleagues and achieved some monumental goals. At Marymount, her absolute favorite part of the roles she plays is connecting with students and helping them to thrive! <\/span>In addition to hands-on, extensive experience working with refugees, asylees, and survivors of gender-based violence, Dr. Scruggs has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on these topics. She earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in African Diaspora Studies with a focus on global migration and emphasis on women, gender and sexuality from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and was a Ford Foundation Fellow, Rotary Ambassadorial Fellow, Fulbright Scholar, and American Field Service high school foreign exchange student.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
