You&#8217;ll gain a solid foundation in genetics, microbiology, chemistry, and physics to prepare for a variety of careers or an advanced degree. Students can further customize their experience through elective courses in virology, endocrinology, immunology, and botany to meet their interests and career goals.<\/p>\n<p>Marymount offers both <strong>Bachelor of Science<\/strong> and <strong>Bachelor of Arts<\/strong> degrees in Biology. The B.S. in Biology equips students\u00a0for careers in biological sciences, biotechnology, and health care fields like medicine, pharmaceuticals, and dentistry. It can also prepare you for academic tracks in pre-med, pre-dental, pre-vet, or MU\u2019s pre-<a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/health-sciences\/doctor-of-physical-therapy\/\">Doctor of Physical Therapy<\/a> curriculum. Students work one-on-one with faculty in the lab and participate in meaningful research that is often published or presented at national or international conferences.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Experiential internships<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Our Bachelor of Science in Biology students participate in exciting and relevant internships in the Metro D.C. area. These include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/\">National Institutes of Health<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.edu\/\">Smithsonian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecrinstitute.com\/\">Emerson Clinical Research Institute<\/a>, local medical facilities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vhchealth.org\/\">Virginia Hospital Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inova.org\/locations\/inova-fairfax-medical-campus\">Inova Fairfax<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtonfreeclinic.org\/\">Arlington Free Clinic<\/a>, and even political organizations.\u00a0<b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Service to the community<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Service is a hallmark of a Marymount education. Biology students and faculty give back both locally and globally \u2014 examples include partnering with <a href=\"https:\/\/enablingthefuture.org\/\">e-NABLE<\/a> to provide cost-effective, 3D-printed artificial limbs to those in need, serving those who are food insecure in Arlington County through an on-campus community garden, and working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawksbillhope.org\/\">Hawksbill Hope<\/a> on its volunteer work in Gales Point, Belize.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Scholarships<\/b> <b>\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Students who demonstrate financial need can apply for STEM scholarships of up to $40,000 across 4 years.
