Don&#8217;t miss this opportunity to elevate your education and make a meaningful impact on a global scale.<\/p>\n<h2>Program Benefits<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Global-Education\/Passport-to-Global-Competence\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.marymount.edu\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Global-Education\/Passport-to-Global-Competence\">Marymount&#8217;s core global competencies<\/a> through curricular, co-curricular, and experiential learning opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Broaden your global perspective and understanding through study, volunteering, and\/or interning abroad<\/li>\n<li>Gain proficiency in another language and conduct research with an international or intercultural focus<\/li>\n<li>Partake in unique intercultural experiences in Washington D.C.<\/li>\n<li>Build a network of globally-minded peers and professionals<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop an understanding of worldwide social justice issues<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Admission Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the university\u2019s general admissions requirements, the admission process for the Global Scholars Program includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/apply.marymount.edu\/register\/MUScholarsApplication\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/apply.marymount.edu\/register\/?id=b4da1a21-a8dd-43f2-abf0-051982dc07cc\">A Global Scholars online application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>An essay answering prompt on application (500 words)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please refer to the application for deadlines and more specific admission information.<\/p>\n<h2>Program Requirements<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Global Scholars Program has four distinct components: coursework, language, research, and experiential or service-learning activities. <\/span>Once they are admitted to the program, Global Scholars must also maintain a 3.0 GPA while completing the following four distinct globally-themed components.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion\" class=\"panel-group accordion\">\n<div class=\"panel panel-default academicyr\">\n<div class=\"acd-heading\">\n<h3>Coursework (13 credits)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"arrow\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Answer\" src=\"\/App_Themes\/MarymountUniversity\/images\/arrow.png\" alt=\"Answer\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Global Scholars must complete the following course requirements:<\/p>\n<p>Four 1-credit colloquium courses (4 credits)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GSP 201 The Intercultural Leader<\/li>\n<li>GSP 202 From Local Activism to Global Impact<\/li>\n<li>GSP 203 The Global City<\/li>\n<li>GSP 204 Global Scholar Capstone Seminar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to these colloquium courses, Global Scholars must complete three upper-level courses (9 credits) that meet the Global Education Office Global Perspective requirement or are otherwise approved by the Director of the Global Education Office.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default academicyr\">\n<div class=\"acd-heading\">\n<h3>Language Proficiency<\/h3>\n<div class=\"arrow\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Answer\" src=\"\/App_Themes\/MarymountUniversity\/images\/arrow.png\" alt=\"Answer\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p><!-- Content --><\/p>\n<p>Global Scholars must show a level of skill in a non-native modern language equivalent to successful completion of a second-semester, college-level language course. Students can meet this requirement in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete six credits of college-level foreign language coursework at the elementary level, which may include courses combining language and culture<\/li>\n<li>Complete three credits of college-level foreign language coursework at the intermediate level. AP, IB, and CLEP equivalencies are accepted<\/li>\n<li>Complete one college introductory or intermediate-level language course while on a full semester or summer study abroad program, in a non-native English speaking country<\/li>\n<li>Submit a research paper focused on the theme of lanugage and culture (from a non-native English speaking country). This paper may also satisfy the Inquiry-Guided Research requirement<\/li>\n<li>Receive a waiver from the Director of the Global Education Office. Waivers will be granted when a student can demonstrate knowledge of a language equivalent to two semesters of college-level work, typically in a proctored exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default academicyr\">\n<div class=\"acd-heading\">\n<h3>Inquiry-Guided Research (3 Credits)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"arrow\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Answer\" src=\"\/App_Themes\/MarymountUniversity\/images\/arrow.png\" alt=\"Answer\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p><!-- Content --><\/p>\n<p>Global Scholars must complete a research project or paper from a list of potential inquiry areas in their field with a global focus.
